Re-engaging Long-Term NEET Youth: An Evidence-Based Career and Community Development Approach
Biography
Trina Stanford is a Career Development Professional with experience in both Canada and the United States, specializing in employment services, career coaching, and workforce development. Her practice has focused on supporting individuals in career decision-making, work search strategies, and access to education and training opportunities, with particular attention to those facing complex barriers to employment.
For the past four years, Trina has been with the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF), where she has played a central role in the national expansion of the In Motion & Momentum+ (IM&M+) program to more than 100 sites across Canada. Her work encompasses curriculum development, facilitator training, and implementation support, contributing to the consistent and effective delivery of a structured, group-based pre-employment intervention.
Trina has contributed to research examining the “spin cycle” phenomenon in employment services and has collaborated on a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of IM&M+, contributing to a growing evidence base on the effectiveness of readiness-focused, person-centred interventions. Her work reflects a commitment to bridging research and practice, ensuring that program design and delivery are informed by evidence while remaining responsive to participant needs.
She is also an active conference presenter, sharing insights on career development practice, program implementation, and systems-level innovation. Grounded in a client-centred and strengths-based framework, Trina’s work is focused on supporting individuals—particularly those furthest from the labour market—in building confidence, agency, and pathways toward sustainable employment and preferred futures.
