Putting the Cards on the Table: A Practical Tool for Complex Life and Career Decisions
Biography
Dr Deborah Munro is a Senior Lecturer in Career Development and Counselling at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where she has spent more than a decade coordinating a graduate program in career development and counselling. With a background spanning high school, TAFE and tertiary teaching, career counselling practice, and academic research, she brings both real-world experience and scholarly rigour to her work. Deborah's research sits at the intersection of career decision-making and educational equity — interests that began with her doctoral work examining how women with caring responsibilities navigate decisions about higher education study. Her current work extends these concerns into culturally responsive career counsellor education, with a particular focus on how graduate programs can better prepare practitioners to work with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Pacific Islander communities. As a non-Indigenous researcher, she is committed to working in respectful partnership with Indigenous communities in this endeavour.
