Doodles, Metaphors, and Meaning: Visual Learning in Career Development Practice
Biography
Naishadh Gadani is a qualified career practitioner, visual storyteller, and author based in Melbourne, Australia, with over 15 years of experience in career education and development. Born and raised India, he trained as a mechanical engineer before moving to Australia in 2007. Following a period of career transition — navigating redundancy and the challenges of starting over in a new country — he discovered his vocation in career practice and has never looked back.
Naishadh currently serves as Senior Program Coordinator at Monash University Careers and Employability , where he designs and delivers career development programs for undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students.
He is also the founder of Your Career Down Under, a Melbourne-based career guidance service established in 2008, specialising in supporting migrants, skilled professionals, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
His career has spanned employment consulting, vocational rehabilitation, program management, and university career services - giving him a uniquely broad view of career development across sectors, populations, and contexts. He has worked extensively with Indigenous youth, job seekers facing complex barriers, and professionals navigating major career transitions.
For the past five years, Naishadh has been developing a distinctive body of work at the intersection of career theory and visual communication. His collection of 140+ illustrated career doodles — each paired with facilitation questions - translates complex career concepts into accessible, engaging visual metaphors. The collection is published in The Big Book of Career Doodles (2023), featuring contributions from 50 career practitioners across the globe.
His visual resources are often used in secondary schools and universities across Australia and the UK. In 2024, his contribution to the career development profession was recognised with the CDAA Award for Excellence by the Career Development Association of Australia — the peak national body for career professionals.
Naishadh is a LinkedIn Top Voice with over 23,000 followers, where he posts career doodles and facilitation content to a global professional audience. He is a sought-after speaker and presenter, known for making career development concepts both memorable and immediately applicable in practice.
His work is grounded in the belief that visual language opens doors - to self-awareness, to career conversations, and to the clients who are most often left behind by text-heavy assessment approaches.
