Biography

Mel Veituna (Taranaki, Ngāruahine, Te Ati Awa) is the Assistant Principal from Nga Taiatea Wharekura and one of the Pouārahi Māori for CATE NZ. Mel’s vision showcases her passion and commitment to give a Māori viewpoint from someone who is immersed in Māori medium ensuring the best outcomes for all our tauira across the motu. It is important that we set up systems and pathways to empower young Māori to succeed as Māori in Te Ao Hurihuri. Ma te huruhuru ka rere te manu—Adorn the bird with feathers so it may fly! Trudy Harrison (Ngāti Hako, Ngāti Rāhiri-Tumutumu, Tuhoe) from Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, and Pouārahi Māori for CATE NZ, brings strong cultural leadership, ensuring Māori perspectives, values, and aspirations are woven through national careers education initiatives. There is a commitment to showcasing pathways for Māori ākonga, uplifting culturally responsive practice, and fostering meaningful partnerships with whānau, hapori, and industry. Trudy is striving to be grounded in tikanga, relationship-building, and has a passion for empowering young people to navigate their futures with confidence and cultural pride.
