All-Electric Bus Network

In March 2024, Palmerston North became a pioneer in sustainable urban transport by launching New Zealand’s first fully electric bus network removing the fleet of 26 diesel buses from circulation.
This initiative, led by Horizons Regional Council in partnership with Tranzit, has transformed public transport in both Palmerston North and the nearby town of Ashhurst with an increase in usage of 41.3%.

Fleet and Operations: The network comprises 42 electric buses each with a range exceeding 300 km, allowing for a full day of service without needing to recharge. Along with having zero emissions, the new bus fleet is quieter, provides a smoother ride and is more attractive and comfortable for users.

Service Frequency: Buses operate every 15 minutes during peak times and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours and weekends

Parking at Massey

For those driving, the main casual parking area is the Orchard Road car park, which is the largest on campus. This is located a 10 minute walk away from the Social Sciences Lecture Building, so please allow plenty of time for this if driving in from out of town. This car park operates on a Pay and Display system from Monday to Friday.

The Social Sciences Lecture Building is circled in the map below along with the Orchard Road car park. For more information about parking on campus please visit the Massey University website.
