A Message from the 2025 CATE Conference Organising Committee

As we reflect on the CATE 2025 Conference, we want to offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us in Wellington. Over three days, we travelled a purposeful and uplifting journey together, beginning with a focus on the people at the heart of this profession. We centred the belief, grounding and wellbeing needed to support young people well, recognising that the strength of our mahi starts with how we care for ourselves.

We then moved into the wider context that is shaping careers education. We explored the reasons behind the shifts in curriculum and pathways, heard from the Minister of Education about the national direction of travel, and welcomed JP Michel, founder of the Challenge Cards, whose session reminded us that a challenge mindset can broaden the questions we ask and unlock new possibilities for students. These conversations helped us look thoughtfully toward the future of work and learning, acknowledging both the opportunities and uncertainties ahead.

Throughout the programme, we also returned to the things that remain constant as we look towards the future. Te ao Māori matters. The arts and creativity matter. The stories and diversity of Aotearoa matter. And at the centre of it all, the people who do this work matter most. This was the thread that wove the conference together and the message we hoped everyone would carry home.

We want to express our sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to this event. Thank you to our presenters, partners and participants for the insight and generosity you brought to every conversation. It was a privilege to host you and to witness the connection and commitment of this community.
