WIDE Trust, Discover Forestry NZ and Future Foresters

The WIDE Trust is a charitable trust formed in 2018. The focus of the Trust is to benefit the advancement of education, research and development in the forestry and wood industry sectors through the provision of grants and scholarships to New Zealand students and institutions. 

The Trust supports students undertaking career-related studies in the wood and forest industry sectors in New Zealand and entities involved in research, development and the advancement of forestry and wood science.

Te Tari Pūreke

Our mission at Te Tari Pūreke – Firearms Safety Authority is to make firearms use in Aotearoa the safest in the world. We do this by effectively regulating firearms use and possession to help keep our communities safe.

Our schools-based firearms safety course equips secondary students (16+) with the knowledge and skills to handle firearms safely and responsibly. Developed with schools and the wider firearms community, the program teaches practical safety practices while also ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Firearms are part of life for many New Zealanders whether through farming, hunting, or sport. This course is not designed to introduce young people to firearms but is aimed at those who are already involved in their use and ensures a safe, structured environment, where we build confidence, reduce risk, and promote lifelong responsibility.

On completion of this course, students will have finished the relevant skill and safety assessments required for gaining their firearms licence. They will have also gained 3 credits at NCEA Level 2.
